Assembly Film Screening
Assembly is a genre-defying film by internationally acclaimed artist Rashaad Newsome that blends documentary, performance art, and speculative storytelling to imagine expansive futures for Black and queer communities.
Set against the transformation of New York’s historic Park Avenue Armory into a vibrant celebration of Black and queer culture, the film weaves together dance, music, sculpture, digital art, and personal stories from an international ensemble of artists. Guided by Being, a non-binary AI digital griot, Assembly explores ancestral memory, colonial legacies, collective care, and the power of creativity to envision new possibilities for liberation and belonging.
Through striking visuals and boundary-pushing storytelling, Assembly honors the resilience of Black and queer communities while challenging us to imagine a more just, joyful, and inclusive future.
