Othello

By William Shakespeare
Directed by John Johnston

April 16 – May 2, 2026

The spring production will be CTC’s return to the Bard himself, in William Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy, Othello. This will be the company’s first foray into Shakespearean tragedy since 2013’s Hamlet, which director John Johnston also helmed.

Othello follows the title character, a Moorish general in the Venetian army, as he is manipulated by his ensign, Iago, into believing that his wife, Desdemona, is being unfaithful to him. Fueled by Iago’s lies, Othello is driven into a fit of jealousy which will have deadly ramifications.

Othello explores themes of jealousy, racism, and the destructive nature of unchecked emotions.

Directed by CTC Executive Artistic Director, John Johnston, who most recently directed last season’s acclaimed Three Sisters, and appeared on CTC’s stage when he portrayed Joseph Surface in The School for Scandal in 2023.
